2013 Manufacturing Day

mfgdaySTEMPLOY LLC in collaboration with the West Virginia Manufacturing Extension Partnership (WVMEP) based in WVU’s Statler College of Engineering and Mineral Resources hosted an out of school activity for Manufacturing Day on October 4, 2013. Manufacturing Day is an annual national event, implemented at the local-level, that supports manufacturers across the nation as they host students, teachers, parents, job seekers and other local community members at open houses designed to showcase modern manufacturing technology and career awareness.

Manufacturing Day provides manufacturers with an opportunity to address the skilled labor shortage they face, connect with future generations, take charge of the public image of manufacturing, and ensure the ongoing prosperity of the whole industry.

It is our aim to include students from Monongalia County to participate in this very beneficial STEM related program. Students in Morgantown, WV from Suncrest Middle and North Elementary who have expressed an interest in Science are being invited to participate in the industry site tours. The Manufacturing Day programs offered include an overview of manufacturing, introduction to career options within the industry, and field trips to visit with manufacturing employees and learn first-hand how products are designed and created.

TourFCX_ManufacturingDay_2013The manufacturing sites visited by students include Azimuth Incorporated located in Fairmont, WV (http://www.azimuthinc.com/) and FCX Systems located in Morgantown, WV (http://www.fcxinc.com/). These manufacturers design products that support commercial, industrial, and the military in defense of our nation.
